And Port Blair, the capital of the union territory, adheres to this reputation. A visit to Port Blair is however, incomplete without a trip to Port Blair’s most popular and yet most serene tourist destination - Munda Pahar. To experience the beauty of this place completely, we recommend you undertake a small trek to reach an elevation that presents the most stunning sunsets, guaranteed to be imprinted on your minds for eternity. And what is even better is the location of our resort, Symphony Samudra Jungle Beach Resort & Spa, which is just a 4-minute walk from the starting point of the trek, Munda Pahar beach at Chidiya Tapu.

Starting Point - Munda Pahar Beach

The gateway to this mesmerising trek begins at a picturesque location. Munda Pahar Beach, commonly known as Chidiya Tapu Beach, near Chidiya Tapu Biological Park, is also a popular tourist hub. The beach is seldom crowded and is a paradise for nature lovers. Several tourists visit this beach not just to enjoy the cool waves of the great blue but also for bird-watching. You can choose to explore this beach before or after the trek. Moreover, since this beach is very close to our resort, you can visit the beach any time you like.

Preparation

Any trek, small or big, requires ample preparation including proper equipment and enough nourishment. For the Munda Pahar Beach trek, you will need to pack a bag with the essentials. Even though the trek is a short journey up and down, the terrain might not be a smooth sail at all times. You will encounter forests and rough paths for which you will need appropriate hiking shoes for proper grip while walking. Open-toed shoes must be avoided to prevent blisters or external injuries. You must carry water bottles, some snacks (preferably ones which quickly boost your energy), sunglasses, sunscreen, and your camera. It is also advisable to carry some glucose supplements. It is also extremely important to stay hydrated at all times. You may also carry insect repellents to avoid painful bites.

Duration

Trekkers traverse approximately 1.5 km of terrain on this trek. It usually takes about an hour to reach the destination point of the trek. However, the time might vary depending on your pace and the number of pit stops you make. It is ideal to start at around 10 in the morning after consuming a nourishing breakfast. Once you reach the sunset point, you can relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the ocean for 2-3 hours. Catch one of the most beautiful ocean sunsets from here before embarking on your journey back.

What to expect

The trek trail courses through thick vegetation, beaches and some parts of the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park. It is therefore laced with natural wonders. If you are lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of the exquisite indigenous and migratory birds or native reptiles known to inhabit this territory. For those who love immersing themselves in gorgeous views, the trek has a treasure for you in store.

Destination

The destination, Munda Pahar, is the southernmost tip of South Andaman. The sunsets witnessed here are a sight to behold. Memories made here are not easily forgotten. You can spend up to 3 leisurely hours here, enjoying yourself with your loved ones while savouring the gorgeous views. All your efforts and sweat will be worth it, that’s an assurance!
